About WMCV
Windsor and Maidenhead
Conservation Volunteers were founded in 1987/88 in the wake of the
great storm which decimated Britain's trees. Since then the group
has gained a range of experience, from hedge laying and coppicing
to bridge building, path construction and 'bashing' (technical term
for cutting down) anything which can't run away. We always provide
the necessary tools to do the job, including instruction in the use
of these as well as a background to the task and the "why" we are
doing the particular task.
Who can join?
Anyone from 16 to 96. Our members include pensioners and people doing the Duke
of Edinburgh's Award. No experience is required and instruction
in the use of tools is given on site. As we do practical conservation
work you should be moderately fit, but by no means an Olympic athlete.
Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
How to join us
We meet at 10 am on work days, normally every other Sunday, and continue until about 4pm. If you want to come later, look out for the yellow WMCV signs. Wear old warm clothes, a waterproof and boots or wellies, and bring a packed lunch. We will provide tea, coffee and biscuits.
Usually our sites can be found on the red Ordnance Survey Landranger map 175; the rest can be found on map 176.
Socials are once a month from around 8.30 pm.
